Inside of Metrodome Collapse video
MINNEAPOLIS - A storm that spanned parts of eight states continued to dump heavy snow in Minnesota Saturday collapsed the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The Vikings Giants game is rescheduled for Monday night Ford Field in Detroit. The game will be televised on FOX 9 at 6:20 CST p.m. Monday.
The possibility of an open-air night game at TCF Bank stadium was considered, but the Giants did not travel with winter weather gear to play in, reported FOX 9 News Director Bill Dallman. TCF Bank was essentially shut down for the winter. It would need up to five days to be prepared for a game.
Stadium Failure
Snow removal workers were clearing snow from the dome roof overnight, but needed to be called down late Saturday night due to safety concerns.
The roof deflated due to snow accumulation around 5 a.m. Sunday. Crews found at least three Teflon roof panels have sustained some damage.
Emergency repair crews of experts are en route to Minneapolis from various locations around the U.S.
Vikings, Giants and NFL officials are now in discussions about what to do in order to maintain options to keep games on schedule and in order.
